Basics of Dating Game – Approach & Converse

Today we’re going to talk about what is, unarguably, the most important part of the pick-up. If you never approach, you will never get laid. You cannot rely on your social circle to do the work for you; you should never, ever, ever bang a chick at work; it’s doubtful your mom is going to go out and find you a solid fuck-buddy. You need to approach.
Luckily, this is a topic that I’ve covered before in depth.
Between those two posts, I’ve covered approaching rather thorough and so I will not be doing that again here. However, something that those posts do not cover is what to say when you approach a girl. The opener is an essential part of the approach and talking to women, and if you’re opener is weak it’s doubtful the set will go anywhere. Before we get into the mechanics of an opener, take some time to go back and read my post on openers:
After reading this post, you should thoroughly understand both how to conquer your anxiety and approach a beautiful woman (or group of women) at a bar, and a good idea of what the first words out of your mouth should be. Remember, never ask a yes or no question to her unless you can control her answers by knowing ahead of time what she’ll say. When given the opportunity, women will always say no. Remember that.
Now not to leave you high and dry (even though I’ve already given you my favorite opener), here are a few more rock solid openers that I’ve found work every single time.
Can I bum a cigarette?
It’s short, simple, and as long as you don’t walk away from her, it pretty much guarantees that she’ll have to stand there and talk to you for at least five minutes. For added intrigue, bust out an awesome lighter instead of borrowing one.
Do you have a lighter?
This opener is wonderful because, once again, as long as you’re holding her lighter you have time to talk to her. Who knows, you may even get a free lighter out of the whole deal!
Hey.
This is the greatest opener in the world because it works every single fucking time, no matter what. A girl will always respond – either by giving you that ugly, bitchy glare or by saying ‘hey’ back to you. Either way, you’re in. Just make sure that if you use this opener, you know what you’re going to follow it with.

Canned Stories
The best thing you can drop after the “hey” opener is a canned story. A canned story should be memorized and able to be deployed at a moment’s notice. It should sound the same 90% of the time you deliver it, only allowing you a little bit of wiggle room with the verbiage. It should always be funny, or contain exaggerated funny elements – typically preceded by the words, “I shit you not” – as well as parts that highlight and showcase attractive areas of your personality.
Remember: A canned story is simply a vehicle for you to, without bragging, tell a girl how awesome you are.

A good example of how a conversation would flow from the ‘hey’ opener using a canned story would be something like:
DYP: Hey
HB: Hi….
DYP: I’m sorry, I know you must get this all the time, but you remind me of this mountain lion I ran across one time.
HB: [Response will vary]
DYP: No seriously! You have to hear this. I take two weeks every year, and pick a part of the world to go backpacking through. Well a few years back I picked the desert lands in Utah with my friend Hendrick.Hilarious, compelling story.
Make sure that the length of your story will always match certain criteria. In the beginning of the pick-up, the story really shouldn’t be longer than 2 minutes or so. You might have some wiggle room with this time, but really try not to push past the 3 minute mark with your story. She doesn’t know you, she doesn’t care – not yet. Further into the pickup, your stories can range from 5 to 10 minutes, maybe longer. You don’t want to dominate the conversation with your stories, however, so make sure you only have 2 or 3 stories on hand of varying length.
Check all of your stories to make sure that they showcase the best parts of you. Without ever bragging, show a girl that you’re funny, thoughtful, strong, resolute, intelligent, and so forth. All of the things that betas claim they are that they just know girls will love, if only she’d give me a chance! – make sure your stories highlight those elements of yourself.
The way to do this is to show it through the jokes you make – make sure to use both toilet humor, so to speak, and intelligent or witty political jokes. Have a little bit of self deprecation, but make sure its always in a humorous light, as this tends to show humility. We will often imply what we really feel about ourselves or say it indirectly, use that knowledge to your advantage. Often times when I get involved in a deep political discussion, or talk about religion or the economy, I leave everyone speechless with the width and breadth in which I have just discussed the current subject – whenever I see that I have done this (left people shocked by dismantling their arguments entirely), I always follow up with self deprecation and say, “But what do I know, I never went to college.” Not that your stories should ever include political leanings, religious affiliations, or the like, this is just an example of how to self deprecate without looking like an arrogant guy faking humility.
Your stories should always display you as a man who keeps a solid alpha frame. The whole point behind game is simply showing a woman that you are steadfast. Women push you, they expect you to push back. They want to make sure that you’ll always be firm, solid, and steady – a rock on which they can rest and lean. They want you to be the constant in their lives. Your stories should telegraph your capability to do just that.
A Quick Test
Using the information given to you so far, how would you approach and open this set?

- Write 3 stories, a short one (1-2 mins), a medium one (2-5 mins) and a longer one (5+ <10). Make sure the stories capitalize on the valuable time they will use and showcase you as a person the girls want to continue talking to.
- Approach and open 5 sets. Make sure at least 1 set is mixed, and 1 set has more than one girl.
- Tell at least one of your stories in every set.
- Get at least 1 phone number after telling your story.
